Black body
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001355
An idealised body that absorbs all electromagnetic radiation falling on it, whatever the wavelength or angle of incidence, and neither reflects nor transmits any. It is also a perfect emitter, and the spectrum of the radiation it gives off depends only on its temperature, as described by Planck's law. A good practical approximation is a small hole in the wall of a closed cavity held at uniform temperature.
