Blocking geometry
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001384
An arrangement in which a single-crystal target is oriented so that its lines or sheets of atoms point from the sample towards the detector, so that particles leaving along those directions are blocked by neighbouring atoms. In ion scattering it gives dips in the detected yield, from which the positions of surface atoms can be determined.
