Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001385

A circulating bodily fluid in animals that transports nutrients, oxygen, hormones, and waste products. It is composed of a liquid matrix called plasma, in which cells like erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells), and platelets are suspended. In bioanalysis, samples of whole blood, plasma (the cell-free liquid obtained after centrifugation with an anticoagulant), or serum (the liquid remaining after clotting) are analyzed to assess physiological and pathological states.
