Blocking
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001382
The process of reducing non-specific binding of analytes or reagents to surfaces in bioanalytical assays. This is achieved by treating the surface with a blocking agent, such as a protein or detergent, that occupies sites where non-specific interactions could occur. Common blocking agents include bovine serum albumin (BSA) or casein.
