Blood-testis barrier

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001394

A physical barrier formed by tight junctions between adjacent Sertoli cells within the seminiferous tubules of the testis. This barrier divides the seminiferous epithelium into basal and adluminal compartments, creating an immunologically privileged environment for developing germ cells. It prevents the passage of harmful substances from the blood into the seminiferous tubules and protects germ cells from immune attack.
