Boomerang effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001434
A phenomenon in ecotoxicology where a chemical substance, after being released into the environment, returns to affect the source population or organism. This occurs through environmental cycling, bioaccumulation, or biomagnification, leading to re-exposure or increased exposure to the original emitter. For example, pollutants emitted by a factory can return to impact the factory workers or local community through contaminated food or water.
