Bruxism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001521
The involuntary, repetitive grinding, gnashing, or clenching of teeth, unrelated to normal chewing or swallowing functions. This parafunctional activity occurs during sleep (sleep bruxism) or while awake (awake bruxism) and is often associated with stress, anxiety, or certain sleep disorders. Chronic bruxism leads to dental damage, facial pain, and headaches, and its manifestation is sometimes a side effect of neurotoxic agents or medications affecting the central nervous system.
