Hypnotic

A type of psychoactive drug that induces sleep or maintains a state of sleep, primarily by depressing the central nervous system. These agents are often used for the short-term treatment of insomnia or as sedatives. Common examples include benzodiazepines and non-benzodiazepine hypnotics, which act on GABA receptors in the brain.
