Hypho-
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005537
A prefix for cluster compounds, especially boranes, whose structure is that of a closo polyhedron with n+3 vertices from which three vertices have been removed, giving a more open, net-like framework than an arachno cluster. It follows closo, nido and arachno in the series of increasingly open skeletons. Hypho-boranes have the general formula BnHn+8, compared with BnHn+6 for arachno-boranes.
