c-ion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002078

A peptide fragment ion that contains the N-terminus, formed when a peptide ion dissociates at the backbone N-C bond between the amide nitrogen and the alpha carbon of the next residue, as in electron capture or electron transfer dissociation. The ion ends in an amide group, so its mass equals the sum of the residue masses plus a proton plus ammonia, 17 u above the matching b-ion.
