Calorie
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001584
A non-SI unit of energy, historically defined as the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius. There are several definitions of the calorie, but the thermochemical calorie is exactly 4.184 joules. In nutrition, the 'large calorie' or kilocalorie (kcal) is often used.
