Calixarenes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001583
Macrocyclic oligomers formed by the condensation of phenols and formaldehyde, characterized by a cup-like or basket-like three-dimensional structure. These compounds possess a hydrophobic cavity and a hydrophilic rim, allowing them to act as host molecules for ions and neutral molecules. The name derives from the Greek word 'calix' meaning chalice or cup.
