Detergent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003083
A surface-active agent that, when dissolved in water, significantly reduces the surface tension of the water and exhibits cleansing properties. These compounds typically possess both hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts, allowing them to emulsify oils and suspend dirt particles. Detergents are classified into anionic, cationic, non-ionic, and amphoteric types based on the charge of their hydrophilic head group.
