Detergency
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003082
The property of surfactant solutions that lets them remove foreign matter, such as soil from fabric or skin, from a solid surface and keep it dispersed in the liquid. The action combines wetting of the surface, lowering of interfacial tension, emulsification of oily soil and suspension of particulate soil, and it is measured by the soil removed, for example as the gain in reflectance of washed test fabric.
