Suspension effect

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011699

A phenomenon observed in potentiometric measurements of suspensions, where the measured potential differs from that of the supernatant liquid. This effect arises from the presence of charged colloidal particles that create an electrical potential gradient within the suspension. It is particularly relevant when measuring pH in soil or other particulate systems.
