Wiegner effect

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012697

The phenomenon where the pH of a suspension of colloidal particles differs from the pH of the supernatant liquid after sedimentation. This effect arises from the adsorption of ions, particularly hydrogen ions, onto the surface of the colloidal particles. It is closely related to the suspension effect observed in soil science and electrochemistry.
