Transurf

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012271

A chain-transfer agent that also behaves as a surfactant, so its molecule has a hydrophilic part, a hydrophobic part and a group able to pass on chain activity. In emulsion polymerization it caps growing chains, limiting molar mass, and it ends up bound at the particle surface, stabilizing the latex. It parallels the surfmer, a surface-active monomer, and the inisurf, a surface-active initiator.
