Capping
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001610
The movement of cross-linked cell surface molecules, such as antigens bound by antibodies, to one pole of a cell, forming a 'cap'. This process is an active, energy-dependent migration that requires a functional cytoskeleton to gather the molecular aggregates. Capping is preceded by patching, where the cross-linked molecules first form small, immobile clusters on the cell membrane before their active transport.
