Charge coupled device

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001897

A semiconductor device that converts light into an electrical charge and then transfers this charge across an array of capacitors to create a digital image. Each pixel in the device accumulates charge proportional to the intensity of incident light. Charge coupled devices are widely used as detectors in spectroscopy, digital cameras, and astronomical telescopes.
