Near-infrared radiation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007794

Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than visible light but shorter than mid-infrared radiation, typically ranging from about 780 nm to 2500 nm. This region of the spectrum is associated with overtone and combination bands of molecular vibrations, particularly those involving C-H, O-H, and N-H bonds. It is widely used in analytical spectroscopy for material characterization and process monitoring.
