Chemical time bomb
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001969
A hazardous chemical or mixture of chemicals that has been released into the environment but does not immediately cause adverse effects. Over time, under specific environmental conditions, these substances can transform or accumulate to toxic levels, leading to delayed and potentially severe ecological or health impacts. An example is the slow release of pollutants from contaminated sediments.
