Cyclopia

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002827

A rare and severe congenital abnormality resulting from the failure of the embryonic forebrain to divide into two hemispheres, a condition known as holoprosencephaly. This developmental defect leads to the formation of a single, centrally located eye or a partially fused eye socket. Cyclopia is incompatible with life and is associated with other profound craniofacial malformations, such as the absence of a nose or the presence of a proboscis-like structure above the eye.
