Devitrification

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003110

The change of a polymer glass into a polymer melt, the reverse of vitrification. It is usually brought about by heating the glass through its glass-transition region or by exposing it to solvent liquid or vapour, which lowers the transition temperature. In inorganic glasses the same word instead means crystallization, a different process that in polymers is called cold crystallisation.
