Differentiation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003180

The process by which a less specialized cell becomes a more specialized cell type, acquiring specific structures and functions. This developmental progression involves changes in gene expression that lead to the production of cell-specific proteins and the formation of distinct tissues and organs. In neurotoxicology, interference with the differentiation of neural stem cells into mature neurons or glial cells is a key mechanism of developmental neurotoxicity.
