Direct current glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003253
An atomic emission spectroscopic technique that uses a direct current glow discharge to atomize and excite sample material, typically solid conductive samples. The sample acts as the cathode, and sputtering by energetic ions in the plasma releases atoms that then emit light at characteristic wavelengths. The emitted light is analyzed to determine the elemental composition of the sample.
