Glow discharge ionization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004920
A process in mass spectrometry where a sample is ionized by bombarding it with energetic species (electrons, ions, or neutral atoms) generated in a low-pressure plasma, known as a glow discharge. This method is effective for direct analysis of solid samples, as it can both atomize and ionize the material. It is often employed in elemental analysis of conductive and non-conductive solids.
