Dielectric barrier discharge ionization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003152
An ambient ionization method for mass spectrometry that uses a plasma generated between two electrodes separated by a dielectric material. A high alternating voltage applied across the electrodes creates a non-thermal plasma in the gas, which is often helium or nitrogen, flowing between them. This plasma contains excited species, ions, and radicals that ionize analyte molecules present on a surface or in a gas stream introduced into the discharge region.
