Dominant half life

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003375

The half-life of a substance in a particular organ or compartment, chosen because it approximately defines the overall clearance rate of the substance at a given time. When elimination is multiphasic, it is the half-life of the phase that dominates clearance at that time, such as the slow terminal phase at late times, and it sets how long the substance persists in the body.
