Drainage basin

An area of land where all surface water from rain, melting snow, or ice converges to a single outlet, such as a river, lake, or ocean. The boundaries of a drainage basin are defined by topographic divides that separate water flow into different systems. This hydrological unit is also known as a watershed or catchment area.
