Electrogenerated chemiluminescence

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003683

The emission of light resulting from an electrochemical reaction, where electrochemically generated species react to form an excited state that subsequently emits photons. This process involves the generation of radical ions at an electrode surface, which then undergo electron transfer to produce an excited molecule. It finds applications in analytical chemistry and display technologies.
