Enhanced phosphorescence analysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013072
A technique for increasing the phosphorescence quantum yield of an analyte by adding a second substance to the sample matrix. This enhancement occurs through mechanisms such as heavy-atom effects, which increase spin-orbit coupling and facilitate the transition to the triplet state, or by providing a rigid matrix that reduces non-radiative decay. For example, adding heavy-atom salts like sodium iodide to an aqueous solution can significantly increase the phosphorescence signal from certain organic molecules.
