Phosphorescence

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008786

A type of luminescence where energy absorbed by a substance is re-emitted slowly as light. This occurs when electrons transition from an excited triplet state to the ground singlet state, a spin-forbidden process that results in a relatively long emission lifetime. The emitted light persists after the excitation source is removed.
