Erythema

A reddening of the skin or mucous membranes resulting from increased blood flow (hyperemia) in superficial capillaries. This condition is a common sign of inflammation, infection, or allergic reaction to a substance. Erythema is assessed visually and can be a clinical indicator in toxicological studies, for instance, when evaluating skin irritation from chemical exposure.
