Estrus syndrome

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004112

A condition of persistent estrus in a female animal, caused by sustained elevated estrogenic activity from either endogenous estrogens, as in polycystic ovary syndrome, or exogenous estrogenic substances. The animal stays in estrus instead of cycling normally, and ovulation fails. In laboratory rodents it is seen as continuous vaginal cornification, which can follow exposure to estrogenic compounds early in life.
