Exophthalmia

An abnormal protrusion or bulging of one or both eyeballs from the orbit, also known as proptosis. This condition can be a sign of an underlying medical issue, such as thyroid disease, or a teratogenic effect resulting from prenatal exposure to certain chemicals. The degree of protrusion is measured with an exophthalmometer, and a difference greater than 2 mm between the eyes is considered abnormal.
