Exothermic reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004220
A chemical reaction that releases thermal energy (heat) to its surroundings, resulting in a negative change in enthalpy (ΔH < 0). The products of an exothermic reaction have lower enthalpy than the reactants. This release of heat often causes the temperature of the reaction mixture to increase.
