Exposure pathway
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004246
The course a chemical agent takes from its source to an organism that results in contact. A complete pathway consists of five elements: a source of contamination, an environmental medium for transport, a point of exposure where contact occurs, a route of exposure into the body, and a receptor population. For example, a leaking underground tank can contaminate groundwater that is later consumed as drinking water.
