F centres
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004318
Color centers in ionic crystals, consisting of an electron trapped in an anion vacancy. These defects absorb light in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum, giving the crystal a characteristic color. They are formed by irradiation or by heating the crystal in the vapor of the metal cation.
