Fibrous crystal in polymers
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004407
A polymer crystal that is much longer in one dimension than in the other two, giving it a fibre-like shape. In many examples, such as highly drawn or gel-spun fibres, the chains are nearly fully extended and lie parallel to the fibre axis. Fibrous crystals in which the chains are folded rather than extended are also known, so parallel chain alignment is common but does not define the type.
