Carbon fibres type UHM

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012944

A class of carbon fibres with an exceptionally high Young's modulus, above 600 GPa, which is over half the in-plane elastic constant of a graphite single crystal. The stiffness comes from a highly graphitic structure with the layer planes aligned almost parallel to the fibre axis. Mesophase-pitch-based fibres are the usual source of this range.
