Carbon fibre
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001637
A filamentary material composed primarily of carbon atoms, characterized by high tensile strength, high stiffness, and low density. These fibers are produced by the pyrolysis of organic precursor fibers, such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) or pitch, at elevated temperatures. Carbon fibers are extensively used as reinforcement in advanced composite materials for aerospace, automotive, and sporting goods industries.
