Foxp3
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004622
A protein that functions as a transcription factor required for the development and suppressive function of regulatory T cells. These cells, which include the CD4+/CD25+ T cell population, maintain immunological self-tolerance and prevent autoimmune reactions. Mutations in the gene encoding Foxp3 cause a severe disorder known as immunodysregulation-polyendocrinopathy-enteropathy, X-linked (IPEX) syndrome.
