Franck-Condon factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004644
A dimensionless number between 0 and 1 equal to the squared overlap of the vibrational wave functions in the initial and final electronic states of a transition. It gives the relative probability that the transition connects a particular pair of vibrational levels, and for a given starting level the values sum to 1 over all final levels. Together with the electronic transition moment, it sets the intensity pattern of the vibronic bands.
