Franck-Condon principle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004645
A principle stating that during an electronic transition in a molecule, the nuclei do not change their positions or momenta. This implies that electronic transitions occur much faster than nuclear motion. The most probable vibronic transitions are those where the vibrational wavefunctions of the initial and final states have the largest overlap.
