Glycerolipids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004934
A class of lipids built on a glycerol backbone that carries one to three acyl, alkyl or alkenyl groups through ester or ether bonds, giving mono-, di- and trisubstituted glycerols. Triacylglycerols are the main energy-storage lipids of adipose tissue and the dominant glycerolipids of fats and oils, while diacylglycerols are minor intermediates and signalling molecules.
