Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013136
A glycoprotein that promotes the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into granulocytes, a category of white blood cells. Produced by several cell types, including endothelial cells and macrophages, it specifically enhances the production of neutrophils from bone marrow precursors. Recombinant forms of this factor are used therapeutically to treat neutropenia, a condition characterized by a low count of neutrophils.
