Growth dilution
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005044
A phenomenon where the concentration of a contaminant within an organism decreases as the organism grows, due to the increase in biomass. The total amount of the contaminant remains constant, but its distribution over a larger volume or mass leads to a lower concentration. This effect is particularly relevant for persistent, bioaccumulative substances in rapidly growing organisms.
