Hyperpolarization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005520

A change in a cell's membrane potential that makes it more negative than its resting potential. This occurs when there is an efflux of positive ions or an influx of negative ions across the cell membrane. Hyperpolarization typically inhibits the generation of action potentials in excitable cells like neurons.
