Iminylium ions

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005613

Cations of the type R2C=N+, in which a nitrogen carrying only one substituent, the doubly bonded carbon, bears the positive charge, making them a subclass of nitrenium ions. They are also called alkylideneaminylium ions, are strongly electrophilic and short-lived, and differ from iminium ions, whose nitrogen carries two further substituents and is not electron deficient.
