Immature

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005614

Describing a cell, particularly a lymphocyte, that has not yet fully differentiated to its final functional state. Immature B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes, for example, have rearranged their antigen receptor genes but have not yet been selected for survival and maturation in the bone marrow or thymus, respectively. These cells are not yet competent to mount a full immune response upon encountering an antigen.
